So originally I thought this was a type of turkey but it’s actually a pheasant. Shows how much I know about birds. But anyway, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Of course, Thanksgiving is not celebrated in Australia, so my first experience of Thanksgiving was when I went on exchange. One of my good friends was an exchange student from the US and he was desperate to have a proper Thanksgiving. We roasted a turkey in our crappy little oven and distributed pumpkin and sweet potato pies, Southern style mac and cheese and candied yams throughout all the ovens in all the neighbouring student flats. It was the most amazing meal I had ever had, and considering it was the first time I had ever roasted a turkey, let a lone made pumpkin and sweet potato pies! I have also never been so full in my life, seriously Christmas is nothing! I pretty much crawled back to my room and didn’t eat anything for a week.
One day I’d love to be in the US for Thanksgiving, but for now I will have to make do with dreaming how strangely wonderful a combination is sweet potato and marshmallows.
Got any fantastic Thanksgiving experiences/traditions? I’d love to hear them! 🙂
